Wolfe Lawyers Two-Hour Free Holiday Parking Raises Over $12,000 For Kawartha Food Share

Downtown shopping has paid off in a big way as the Wolfe Personal Injury Lawyers Two-Hour Free Holiday Parking raised $12,625.58 for Kawartha Food Share (KFS) at a cheque presentation at the latter’s facility on Wednesday afternoon.

From Nov. 25 to Dec. 31, Wolfe Lawyers sponsored Downtown Peterborough's free parking. This includes all downtown municipal parking spaces such as on-street parking, municipal parking lots, the King Street Parking Garage and Simcoe Parking Garage.

Any optional parking fees paid through parking meters or the HotSpot App went towards KFS during that time.

“The Two-Hour Free Holiday parking promotion is a true win-win scenario that collects much-needed donations for the Kawartha Food Share while encouraging people to enjoy the shopping, dining and entertainment of downtown businesses,” said Mayor Jeff Leal.

Residents were able to park in all downtown municipal parking spaces including on-street parking, municipal parking lots, the King Street Parking Garage and the Simcoe Street Parking Garage. Any paid parking fees at pay-and-display machines, parking meters or via the HotSpot App during the free two-hour period were donated to KFS.

Free Holiday Parking For Two Hours Begins On Friday In Downtown Peterborough

Downtown Peterborough has two-hour free parking in effect on Friday at all downtown municipal parking spaces including on-street parking, municipal parking lots, the King Street Parking Garage and the Simcoe Street Parking Garage announced by the City of Peterborough.

The free parking program — courtesy of Wolfe Personal Injury Lawyers — is in effect until Dec. 31 to encourage people to do their holiday shopping locally and to help raise money to support Kawartha Food Share according to the City.

Any paid parking fees at pay-and-display machines, parking meters or via the HotSpot App during the free two-hour period are being donated to Kawartha Food Share.

“It’s more important than ever to support and shop local. Wolfe Lawyers will continue to invest in local opportunities which give back to the citizens of our great community,” said Bill Wolfe of Wolfe Lawyers. “We encourage people to support Kawartha Food Share with some form of donation to help those in need in our community.”

Anyone needing more than two hours of parking are asked to park in the City’s surface lots or parking garages.

Kawartha Food Share Receives Over $19,000 From 2021 Free Holiday Parking Initiative

A total of $14,265.57 was raised for Kawartha Food Share in December 2021 by generous Peterborough residents. While parking was free downtown from Nov. 26 to Dec. 31, some opted to still put money in the meter - which was then donated.

The initiative was generously sponsored by Wolfe Personal Injury Lawyers - who contributed an additional $5,000 to the Kawartha Food Share, bringing the total raised to $19, 265.57. Wolfe has also committed to support 2 Hour Free Holiday Parking over the next two years.

“Wolfe Personal Injury Lawyers was proud to be part of this partnership with the City of Peterborough. We appreciate the support and generosity of shoppers and residents making voluntary donations during the holiday season,” said Bill Wolfe, Wolfe Personal Injury Lawyers. “ As an active part of this community, we are equally excited to contribute an additional $5,000 to the total. The buying power of the Kawartha Food Share enables food purchases at approximately six times the contribution amount, bringing the combined contribution of $19,265.57 to over $115,000 of food to support the local need across the City and County of Peterborough.

Holiday Shopping Passports Are Now Available For Downtown Shopping

Make sure to shop downtown with your Holiday Shopping Passport over the holiday season for your chance to win up to $3,000 in downtown money.

There are more than 140 places to collect stamps this holiday season in downtown. The passports feature three early bird prizes of $500 in downtown money to be drawn December 5th, 12th and 19th with the grand prize of $1,500 in downtown money to be drawn January 9th.

The Holiday Shopping Passports program rewards people for supporting local businesses by shopping, dining and enjoying downtown. Last year’s program saw shoppers stamp a whopping $1.9 million worth of Holiday Shopping Passports.

HOW THE HOLIDAY SHOPPING PASSPORT PROGRAM WORKS

-> Every time you spend $10 at a participating business, a box on your passport will be stamped.

-> When your passport is filled (20 stamps), complete the form and drop it off at a ballot box at one of the participating businesses.

-> Each completed passport is a ballot for a draw to win downtown money. There are more than 100 participating businesses downtown.

-> Bring your Holiday Shopping Passport downtown on November 23rd for Black Friday as more than 100 downtown businesses put on some of the biggest sales of the year.

Also, the DBIA’s annual promotion of two hours free street parking starts on Black Friday and runs until the end of December thanks to the City of Peterborough Parking Division.

Free Parking Downtown During Holiday Season Raised $11,488 For Kawartha Food Share

Any money put in the meter during the holiday season when free 2 hour parking was in place went to charity, and generous shoppers stepped up bigtime with their donations. 

Indeed, Peterborough raised a whopping $11,488 for Kawartha Food Share this year through the funds put in meters.

The City of Peterborough’s parking division and the Downtown Business Improvement Area have partnered since 2003 on this free parking initiative, with money put in the meter going to charity each year.

"Once again our community has shown its tremendous generosity," says Mayor Daryl Bennett. "By putting money in the parking machines downtown in December, we are helping to feed people in our community through the efforts of Kawartha Food Share. Thank you to all of the people and downtown businesses that supported this initiative."
