Major Peterborough Infrastructure Project Now Complete

Several Downtown Sections to Undergo Road Surface Repairs
/Several downtown streets are receiving much-needed road surface repairs, as preparatory work has been ongoing since May.

The work includes replacing frames, covers, and grates, curb replacement in select locations, milling, surface paving and pavement markings.
Structure adjustments and concrete curb and gutter replacement sections are almost complete, with only two sections remaining. Following the completion of milling operations, final concrete work may be required.
During the next phase of milling and paving operations, no parking will be permitted on Water Street nightly between Sept. 3 and Sept. 11, and on George Street North nightly between Sept. 5 and Sept. 13. Signage will be posted. Motorists who do not follow the parking restrictions will be ticketed and towed to the Del Crary Park municipal lot at 100 George St. N. Owners must report to pick up their vehicle before 9 a.m. the next day to avoid a secondary parking infraction penalty notice.
Milling and paving operations are scheduled to begin in August and September at the following locations:
Brock, Simcoe and King streets between George and Water streets: Daytime between August 26 to August 30, with one to two days required for each operation. A road closure will be in place only while operations are proceeding. The road closure will be removed when workers are not present.
Brock Street east of Water Street and Sheridan Street: Between September 3 and September 6, with one to two days required for each operation. Traffic control is anticipated to restrict operations to one lane with the use of flagging operations.
Water Street: Nightly between September 3 and September 11, with two to four days required for each operation. The elimination of on-street parking will apply during operations. Signage will be posted. Those who do not follow parking restrictions will be ticketed for a parking infraction, towed to Del Crary Park municipal lot, 100 George St. N, and must report to pick up their vehicle prior to 9 a.m. to ensure they are not in receipt of a secondary parking infraction penalty notice.
George Street North: Nightly between September 5 and September 13, with two to four days required for each operation. The elimination of on-street parking will apply during operations. Signage will be posted. Those who do not follow parking restrictions will be ticketed for a parking infraction, towed to Del Crary Park municipal lot, 100 George St. N, and must report to pick up their vehicle prior to 9 a.m. to ensure they are not in receipt of a secondary parking infraction penalty notice.
Please note the scheduled dates may be subject to change depending on operational sequencing, weather, or other unforeseen issues.
The City of Peterborough is coordinating with the contractor to minimize impacts on events planned in the downtown.

Armour Road to Undergo Sewer Replacements and Spot Repairs Beginning Sept. 9

The work includes repairing two sections of storm sewer and repairing one section of sanitary sewer along Armour Road between Parkhill Road East and Vinette Street according to the City of Peterborough.
All work is scheduled to be completed by late fall.
After the necessary sewer repairs are completed, the affected surface areas will be restored. Traffic may be reduced to one lane using flagging operations during the project works to facilitate this work. As a result, local traffic is expected to experience delays within the construction limits.
The City has awarded the project to Accurex Inc.

Infrastructure Project on Armour Road Between Hunter and Clifton Street
/Armour Road between Clifton Street and Hunter Street will be closed to through traffic, with access maintained for local traffic, during a major infrastructure project that will include replacing storm sewers, sanitary sewers and the water main as well as road reconstruction.

Local traffic with a destination within the road closure will be permitted, however travellers may experience delays within the construction limits.
The project, awarded to Green Infrastructure Partners Inc., is tentatively scheduled to begin on July 17. The majority of the work is scheduled to be completed by late fall of 2023. Any carryover work that remains will be completed between May and July 2024.
The project includes removal of existing infrastructure, excavation and grading, installation of new storm sewers and sanitary sewers, watermain, concrete curb and gutter, road base and asphalt, streetlights, sidewalk, tree planting, pavement markings and regulatory signage.
Detour routes:
Vehicle detours
Southbound traffic will turn west at Parkhill Road East, south on George Street and east on Hunter Street to Armour Road.
Northbound Traffic will travel west on Hunter Street, north on Water Street and east on Parkhill Road to Armour Road.
Pedestrian detours
Pedestrians travelling north and south will take Rogers Street between Hunter Street and Hazlitt Street.
Transit detours
Peterborough Transit Route 7 will be rerouted northbound, continuing straight on Rogers Street, turning right on Dufferin Street and left on Armour Road, returning to the regular route.
Northbound stops on Armour Road at Douro Street, Macfarlane Street and Euclid Avenue will not be served by Route 7 Lansdowne during this construction.
The following temporary bus stops will be added:
Northbound on Rogers Street at Oxford Street
Dufferin Street at Armour Road

Lansdowne Street West Bridge Construction Slated For May 23; To Be Completed In the Fall
/The City of Peterborough is completing work on the Lansdowne Street West Bridge over the Otonabee River starting on May 23 to be complete by the fall.
Lansdowne Street will be reduced to a single lane in each direction during the construction. Access for local traffic will be maintained during that time but may experience delays.
The work includes removing the asphalt and granular road base, inspecting the bridge approach slabs, installing new road base granular, base and surface asphalt on either side of the bridge.
The City has awarded the project to Dufferin Construction.

Hunter Street East Closed for Construction From Nov. 7-11
/Hunter Street East between Rogers and Burnham Street is closing from Nov. 7 to 11 for sanitary and water main installation services announced on Friday.

The sidewalk on the south side of Hunter Street East between Mark Street and Rogers Street is closing. Pedestrian access is available on the north sidewalk on Hunter Street. Access to the Rotary Greenway Trail is available during the construction period.
Traffic will be detoured along the following routes:
Eastbound traffic will travel south on Burnham Street, east on Maria Street and north on Rogers Street
Westbound traffic will travel south on Rogers Street, west on Maria Street and north on Burnham Street
Local access to businesses and residences in the construction area will be maintained.

Sherbrooke Street Closure Planned For Oct. 21 and 24
/Sherbrooke Street between Bethune Street and Reid Street is closed for periods on Oct. 21 and 24 for grinding and paving work.
During construction, a single northbound lane will be maintained at the intersection of Sherbrooke and Rubidge streets.
Grinding work will be completed on Friday with a road closure from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sherbrooke Street will re-open after 3 p.m. and remain open for the weekend.
Paving will be completed on Monday with a road closure from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In case of inclement weather, paving will be completed on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Detour routes will be posted. Pedestrian access will be available during this period.

Overnight Road Work Scheduled For Lansdowne and Fairbairn Street Beginning Monday
/The City of Peterborough has scheduled two road reconstruction projects during overnight hours starting Monday until Oct. 12. on Lansdowne and Fairbairn Street.
From 9 p.m. until 7 a.m., road closures are occuring Lansdowne Street between Park Street and Monaghan Road and on Fairbairn Street between Wolsely Street and McCrae Drive.
Roads will re-open each morning with detour routes will be posted.

Bethune Street Intersections Closed Due to Road Construction

Hunter Street at Bethune Street is closed from June 6 - 24. Simcoe Street at Bethune Street from June 3 - 17 is also closed for construction.

/The intersection of Sherbrooke and Bethune streets will be closed to through traffic from Jan. 17 - 22 while work is completed as part of the Central Area Flood Reduction Project. Sidewalks in the construction area will also be closed.
