One Woman Pronounced Dead From House Fire; Police and Fire Services to Conduct Investigation

A 43-year-old woman has been pronounced dead after a fatal fire at a residence in Peterborough Tuesday afternoon.

At roughly 3:40 p.m., an officer on general patrol was flagged down and was informed of the fire at Rubidge Street and Townsend Street.  

The woman was found inside the apartment by Peterborough Fire Services and despite life-saving efforts from Fire and EMS, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Peterborough Police Service and Ontario Fire Marshal will be at the scene Tuesday to conduct their investigation. There is no word on what started the fire.

Peterborough Police Service Release Safety Tips For Back to School

As children return to school on Tuesday, the Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit will be out this week providing enforcement and education to motorists with safety tips.

The Peterborough Police reminds the public that all speeds around the schools are reduced to 40 km/h on the main roads and 30 km/h on more residential roads where pick up and drop-offs can occur.  As these are identified as Community Safety Zones, fines are doubled.

Peterborough Police Conduct Commercial Vehicle Inspection Blitz

The Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit and Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance inspectors with the Ministry of Transportation conducted a commercial vehicle inspection on Thursday.

There were 16 vehicle inspections conducted with the following results:

  • 7 vehicles marked out of service (vehicles cannot operate on the road until a defect(s) repaired

  • 2 plates seized (Major defects would make it unsafe to be on the road)

  • 12 Provincial Offence Notices issued for:

    • Improper tires

    • Improper licence

    • Insecure load

    • Equipment issues

    • Overweight

    • Brake issues

    • 4 warnings issued

One of the vehicles taken out of service was a transport driver training company that was training a new transport truck driver.  The vehicle being trained on was unsafe and removed from the road.

Police Seeking Information and Whereabouts Of 35-Year-Old Peterborough Woman

The Peterborough Police Service is asking for the public’s help locating 35-year-old Kassandra Warburton, who was reported missing on Tuesday afternoon.

She has not been heard from recently and has missed regular contact times with family.

Warburton is described as:

  • Female

  • Caucasian

  • 5’8 with a medium build

  • Darker brown hair and eyes

  • Has some difficulty walking

Peterborough Police Searching For Missing 14-Year-Old Teen

The Peterborough Police Service is seeking public assistance in locating 14-year-old Philip Aaron.

The Norwood teen was last seen by his family on Monday at about noon in downtown Peterborough. His family and police are concerned for his safety.

He is described as:

  • 5'5"

  • 140 lbs.

  • Shoulder length dark curly hair

  • Wearing a light grey and camo hoodie, black faded jeans and white and grey Nike AirForce 1 sneakers

His family has advised that he may have a knife.

Dryer Fire Breaks Out Of Aylmer Street North Basement; No Injuries Reported

A dryer fire has caused roughly $5,000 in damages at an Aylmer Street North basement however, no injuries were reported late on Wednesday night.

At roughly 20:11 p.m., Peterborough Fire Services responded to a report of a possible structure fire on Aylmer Street North. Fire crews observed smoke coming from a detached dwelling with all occupants exiting prior to FD arrival.

Fire Crews entered the unit to find that a fire had started in a clothes dryer that was located in the basement of the dwelling. It was quickly extinguished and damage was contained to the dryer and immediate area in the basement.

Peterborough Fire say the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Peterborough Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 15-year-old Neveah Wallwork who was reported missing on Saturday.

Wallwork was last seen leaving her residence on Monday in the Crawford Drive area.

She is described as:

  • 5’8'

  • Slender

  • Long blonde hair

  • Fake eyelashes

  • Nose pierced on right side

 Last seen wearing:

  • White crop top

  • Black spandex shorts

  • Possibly wearing green Air Jordan shoes

Search Continues For 23-Year-Old Peterborough Man Missing In Little Lake Near Train Bridge

The Peterborough Police Service, the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) unit, Peterborough Fire Services and the OPP Dive team are continuing the search for a 23-year-old Peterborough man who went into the water in Little Lake near the train bridge in the Lansdowne Street and Edward Street area Monday evening.

The incident happened at about 6:50 p.m. on Monday. Officers learned the man had gone into the water from the shore. Another friend who had jumped from the train bridge attempted to help him but was unsuccessful. The second man was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.

At about 11:00 a.m., increased police and first responder activity is expected in the area.

The public is thanked for their patience as the search is conducted.

Peterborough Man Drowned at Beavermead Park Sunday; Pronounced Dead At PRHC On Monday

A 22-year-old Peterborough man has died after going into the water at Beavermead Park on Sunday.

At roughly 5:15 p.m., officers and first responders were called to Beavermead Park. According to Peterborough Police, three people had entered the water but only two could get out. 

Peterborough Fire Services activated their water rescue team and located a male in the water. He was resuscitated and taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre but was pronounced dead on Monday.

Missing Python Since Friday Has Yet to Be Found

A 10-year-old non-venomous ball python missing since Friday has yet to be located according to the Peterborough Police, announced on Monday.

The snake is described as black and brown in colour, approximately 4' in length and was lost in the area of Millennium Park.

It was last seen swimming toward the train bridge.
