Peterborough Petes Make Trade Hours Before Home Opener
/The Petes acquired a 13th round pick in the 2027 OHL Priority Selection from the Guelph Storm in-exchange for defenceman William Haley.

Haley, a 2005-born defenceman, was a first round pick in the 2022 OHL U18 Priority Selection by Mississauga.
He played in 21 games for the Steelheads in parts of two season before being traded to the Petes at last year’s trade deadline.
In 26 games with the Maroon and White, he tallied 3 assists.
“On behalf of the Petes, I’d like to thank Will for his commitment and for being a great teammate over the past season,” Petes GM Mike Oke said. “We wish him nothing but the best as he continues his career in Guelph.”
The Petes play their 2024-25 home opener on Thursday night against the rival Kingston Frontenacs.

Peterborough Petes Acquire Nico Addy, Martin Matejicek and Draft Pick From Owen Sound For Konnor Smith and Sam McCue
/With eight days ahead of the Ontario Hockey League deadline, the Peterborough Petes have acquired forward Nico Addy, defenceman Martin Matejicek and a third-round pick in 2026 in exchange for Anaheim Ducks prospect Konnor Smith and forward Sam McCue announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The 2007-born forward was selected by the Attack in the first round, 12th overall, in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. In 26 games, the Casselman, Ont. native has one goal and two assists.
The former U16 Toronto Jr. Canadien had 24 points in 33 Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) games last season, winning a 2023 OHL Cup. In that tournament, he scored four goals with an assist in seven games. Standing at 6’4”, Addy represented Ontario in the 2023 Canada Winter Games, scoring twice in six games.
Matejicek, a 2005-born defenceman, was selected by the Attack in the first round, 28th overall, in the 2023 CHL Import Draft. The 6’2” Jihlava, Czechia, native has played 34 games in his OHL career with a goal and an assist. Matejicek has represented Czechia at various youth levels including U18 at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup where he picked up two assists in five games.
“We’re excited to be able to add Nico and Martin to the lineup,” said Michael Oke, Petes general manager and director of business operations. “Nico is a big young forward with a ton of potential who won the OHL Cup last year. Martin is a big defenceman who plays solid in his own end and can move the puck.”
Smith, a 2004-born defenceman, was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the fourth round, 97th overall, in last yea’rs NHL Entry Draft. Originally selected by the Petes in the ninth round of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, the 6’5” Windsor, Ont. native has appeared in 145 games in three seasons with the Petes, scoring 14 times and adding 21 assists for 35 points. Smith also played in all 23 of the Petes playoff games last season, picking up two assists while winning a 2023 OHL Championship. Konnor appeared in all five Petes 2023 Memorial Cup games with an assist.
“I’d like to personally thank Konnor for everything he’s done over the past three seasons for the Petes and the city of Peterborough,” continued Oke. “Konnor’s been a fan favourite on and off the ice and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”
McCue, is a Sudbury, Ont. forward, selected by the Petes in the seventh round, 125th overall, in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. In 67 career games, he’s scored 11 goals and added five assists for 16 points. McCue played in three playoff games last season en route to an OHL Championship.
“On behalf of the Petes, I’d like to thank Sam for two great years in Peterborough. We wish him the best of luck in Owen Sound,” said Oke. “I’d like to thank both Konnor and Sam for the role they played in last year’s OHL Championship. They both will forever be remembered as Champions in Peterborough.”

Peterborough Petes Trade OHL Playoff MVP Goaltender Michael Simpson to London Knights
/The OHL Playoff MVP is returning to his hometown as the Peterborough Petes traded Michael Simpson to the London Knights for goaltender Zach Bowen and Kingston Frontenac’s third-round pick in 2025, announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Bowen, a Kanata native, was selected by the Knights in the fourth round, 77th overall in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. In 26 games during his rookie season last year with London, Bowen had a 17-4-0-0 record with a 3.10 GAA and .899 save percentage. In last season's playoffs, Bowen played 10 games, leading the Knights to the OHL Championship Series against the Petes. Bowen was awarded the OHL’s F.W. “Dinty” Moore Trophy for the lowest goals-against average by a rookie goalie. He recently returned from Edmonton Oilers rookie camp as a free agent invite.
“Zach is a good young goaltender who already has a very impressive resume after one year in the league,” noted Michael Oke, Petes general manager. “We’re excited to add him to the team ahead of the season.”
Simpson was entering the league as an over-age goaltender. He was selected by the Petes in the 10th round, 193rd overall, by the Petes in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection. Simpson finished third in the OHL in GAA (2.73), second in save percentage (.914) and first in shutouts (five), all while leading the league in games played (51). In the playoffs, Simpson finished with a 2.80 GAA and a .914 save percentage in 23 games, leading the Petes to an OHL Championship and winning the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as the playoff MVP.

“I’d like to thank Michael for his four years of commitment to the Petes Organization and the city of Peterborough,” said Oke. “It’s very challenging to trade a player of Michael’s ability and character. We wish him the best as he joins his hometown team for his final year of Junior.”
The Petes host their 2023-24 season opener on Thursday against the Kingston Frontenacs at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Peterborough is raising their 2023 OHL Championship banner prior to puck drop, scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Peterborough Petes Release the 2023 Development Camp Schedule
/The Peterborough Petes have released the official schedule for the upcoming Development Camp of on and off ice fitness, with 46 players and goaltenders expected to attend.

The camp will begin with off-ice fitness testing on Friday, June 23 and wrap up with two on-ice sessions on Saturday, June 24. Friday’s fitness testing will take place at Hybrid Sports from 5:45 p.m.-7:30 p.m. This event will not be open to the public. Saturday’s on-ice scrimmages will take place beginning at 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Kinsmen Civic Centre at 1 Kinsmen Way. These ice sessions will be open to the public and will be streamed live on the Petes Facebook page.

U16 AAA Peterborough Petes Wil McFadden Signs With Guelph Storm
/Former Peterborough Elite Court Sports U16 AAA Petes Wil McFadden has committed to Standard Player Agreement with the Guelph Storm.

McFadden was taken 31st overall in the U16 Priority Selection and was the first Pete to be drafted among 13.
He led the team with 41 goals and 41 assists for 82 points in 36 games. McFadden added 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points in eight playoff games for the U16 Peterborough Petes. He won the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) championship with the Petes. He also netted four goals and five assists at the OHL Cup.
“I would also like to thank all the people who have helped me get to this point,” said McFadden. “I have a lot of hard work and training ahead of me as I look to fulfill my dream of playing in the OHL with the Guelph Storm. I look forward to contributing to my team and community.”

Peterborough Petes Second-Round Playoff Tickets Now Available
/Playoff tickets for the Peterborough Petes’s games three and four of the Eastern Conference Semi-Final between the Peterborough Petes and the Ottawa 67s are now on sale announce on Wednesday.

Tickets can be purchased online or by contacting the PMC Grant Thornton Box Office in person or at (705) 743-3561. Box office hours are 9:30 - 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, they can also be reached over the phone on Monday, between 9:30 - 5 p.m.

Season Ticket Members that pre-authorized or purchased a round one bundle will be credited on their PMC account for games five and seven. Any pre-authorized accounts will have that credit will be applied to the purchase of round two bundles automatically. Fans who did not pre-authorize and would like to purchase a round two bundle can via PMC Grant Thornton Box Office starting on Wednesday. Season Ticket Member bundles must be purchased by Monday at 5 p.m.
Pre-authorized Season Ticket Members do not need to contact the Box Office; their tickets will be automatically distributed. Season Ticket Members without a bundle will have access to purchase their seats until 5 p.m. on Monday.

Peterborough's Nolan Burke Sends Sarnia Sting to Second Round With Walk-Off Overtime Goal
/Sarnia Sting forward and Peterborough’s Nolan Burke has taken his team to the second round after scoring a walk-off game-winning goal in a 4-3 overtime win over the Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph on Sunday night.

The Sting had a 3-2 series lead over Guelph as Burke also had the game-tying assist that put the game into overtime.
Burke received a drop pass Zach Filak as Sarnia crossed the blue line and entered the offensive zone. Burke circled around the net and buried a wraparound goal, slipping it by Storm goaltender Patrick Leaver for the walk-off and series-ending goal.

The goal was Burke’s second overtime goal of the series. He awas awarded third-star of the game honuors with a goal and an assist.
The Sting have yet to advance to the second round of the playoffs since 2018.
Peterborough's Nolan Burke One Goal Away From 50 For OHL Season
/A two-goal night for Peterborough’s Nolan Burke of the Sarnia Sting against the Hamilton Bulldogs puts him at 49 goals on the season, one short of breaking the 50 mark from Wednesday’s game.

Both goals came from rebounds on point shots. Burke scooped up the puck and got it past Bulldog goaltenders Matteo Drobac in the first period and Tristain Malboeuf in the third.
Burke is currently second in the league with goals behind Matthew Maggio of the Windsor Spitfires. He ranks first in the league with powerplay goals with 22, ahead of Peterborough Petes’s Avery Hayes with 19.
Only four other Sarnia Sting players have broken the 50-mark in OHL history during the regular season. Reid Boucher in 2012-13 (62), Steven Stamkos in 2007-08 (58), Ivan Novoseltsev in 1998-99 (57) and Jon Sim in back-to-back seasons from 1995-97 (56).
The 20-year-old forward can break the 50-mark on St. Patrick’s Day this Friday on the road against the Guelph Storm. His father Tim Burke organized the 20th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Peterborough that took place last Sunday.
