Fur A Walk offers dog walking, puppy, kitty, and senior pet visits, and pet chauffeur services if you just need to get your pet to the vet or the groomers. Electric City Works is the exciting next chapter for Chalk Therapy owners Tara Lee and Adam Genge. Finalists in the 2017 Win This Space Competition, they opened their first location on Erskine Avenue. Continuous growth and multiple connections with other local artisans triggered the creation of Electric City Works, a maker’s space and market space for over 20 local makers and artists. PTBOStrong was formed earlier this year due to the opioid and homelessness crisis facing Peterborough. PTBOStrong aims to raise awareness, education and funds, which will go toward a safe consumption site, local support, and eventually a healing lodge. Dan Joyce’s Classic Clothing, the iconic women’s wear store in Peterborough, has a new owner. Nancy Wiskel recently took over ownership from Dan and Sally Joyce, who have built a legacy business over the last 40 years. Nancy’s history with the store goes back to helping her Dad pick out gifts for her Mom at the store! She also has a background in the online fashion world with her company styleyesfashioncrate.com. Nancy plans to maintain all of the wonderful staff and clothing lines, while adding a few new lines here and there. Congratulations to Nancy on her new adventure—and to Dan and Sally on their retirement.

Speaking of anniversaries, how about 100 years! It was 1919 when the first Purveys opened in Toronto. In 1956, Jeff Purvey’s opened in Peterborough on Rubidge Street, and later added a second location on Chemong Road. Manager Brian Tillie, himself marking 33 years with the company, is planning a big celebration all day this Saturday (November 9) with everything tax-free, and free appetizers for eat-in customers, cake and more. Savage Arms, located in Lakefield and Westfield Massachusetts, has new ownership. An investor group which includes Savage President and CEO, Al Kasper, purchased the company from Vista Outdoor. Vice President and General Manager Terry McCullough says the transition will be very stable, with no changes anticipated. Savage Arms is celebrating two anniversaries this year, 125 years since Arthur Savage founded the company in Utica New York, and 50 years manufacturing rifles in Lakefield. And two of their employees recently marked milestones, Dave Myles with 40 years at the company, and Ernie Barrage with 47 years. Congratulations to all.
