Peterborough Petes Sign Fourth-Round Draft Pick to Standard Player Agreement

It was the next step up in the hockey world for 16-year-old Braydon McCallum as the Peterborough Petes signed him to a standard player agreement in a contract signing held at Hybrid Sports on Thursday afternoon.

The Petes drafted McCallum in the fourth round, 69th overall in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. The Petes did not have a second and third-round pick for that draft.

McCallum played for Brantford 99ers U16 AAA during the 2021-22 season with 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points in 27 games. The centreman racked up three assists in four games at the OHL Cup. 

“It was a great summer where I'm developing right now and getting better," said McCallum. “I can't wait to start the season and hopefully win an OHL Championship and the Memorial Cup.”

The Delhi, Ont.-born centreman says models his play after Stanley Cup champion and Colorado Avalanche’s Gabriel Landeskog.

"He's a leader,” explained McCallum. “He also plays the physical and skilled game."

“Through our evaluations, what really attracted us to Brayden was the fact that he demonstrated some skill and ability to compete,” said Michael Oke, Petes general Manager. “Game-in and game-out, every shift, he made something happen on the ice.”

Braydon is not the only family member in the OHL as his brother, Landon plays in the OHL for the Sudbury Wolves.
