St. John’s Anglican Church To Ring Bell Every Day Until June 21st In Remembrance Of Murdered Aboriginal Women
/This is a beautiful and powerful gesture...
St. John’s Anglican Church in Peterborough is ringing the bell for 10 minutes at noon every day until June 21st in remembrance of murdered and missing aboriginal women in Canada.
This idea was inspired by Archbishop Fred Hiltz, head of the Anglican Church of Canada, who recently suggested that churches across Canada ring their bells in a show of force for indigenous women who are missing or have been murdered.
More than 1,000 aboriginal women and girls have either been killed or gone missing since 1980.
The bells will ring at the church until June 21, the National Aboriginal Day of Prayer.
