Peterborough Historical Society Annual General Meeting
In accordance with Provincial authorization, notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Peterborough Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, 15 April, 2025, at The Peterborough Lions Center for the following purpose:
1. To elect Directors
2. To appoint Auditors for the Corporation and to authorize the Board of Directors to fix their remuneration
3. To receive the Financial Statements for 2024, reviewed by Patrick Sweeney, Chartered Accountant
To transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting.
Only paid-up members of record at the close of business on 15 April, 2025, will be entitled to attend and vote at the meeting.
Following the meeting will be a variety of speakers celebrating the life and contributions of former PHS President, local author, heritage advocate and long-time Hutchison House volunteer Jean Murray Cole.
Jean’s many institutional connections included: Lang Pioneer Village, the Canadian Canoe Museum, Christ Church Community Museum (Lakefield), and Peterborough’s St John’s Anglican Church. She was an editor and author, community volunteer, historian, speaker, board member, historical consultant/advisor, and (as noted in her Examiner obituary of 21 December 2024) “a citizen extraordinaire”.
Jean was President of the PHS when it was bequeathed the old stone house at 270 Brock Street, Peterborough, in 1969. It was with Jean leading the charge that the Society’s Board of the day decided to turn the property into the community museum – Hutchison House – that it has become. The conversion from residence to museum took several years of hard work and substantial fundraising, in both of which she played an instrumental role.
Non-members are welcome to attend the celebration of Jean. A reception with light refreshments will follow. For further information or to renew your PHS membership, please contact the historical society office at 705-740-2600.

Public Energy Presents Murmuration by Le Patin Libre at Peterborough Memorial Centre
Public Energy Performing Arts is bringing the internationally-renowned contemporary dance company Le Patin Libre to the Peterborough Memorial Centre on April 8, 2025 at 7:30pm with their performance Murmuration.
Peterborough will be the last stop on a tour that takes the company across the United States and Canada.
Based in Montreal, Le Patin Libre, has assembled a company of 15 virtuoso skaters from 7 countries.
Together they perform the original dance on ice, Murmuration, based on the aerial ballets of swarms of birds.
Like a murmuration, the dancers move at high speeds around the entire rink, nearly careening into each other, coming together as one, instantly changing direction and splitting into separate flocks.
The visual effect combines with the sharp sounds of blades cutting across ice and spraying snow as they continuously stop and start – altogether an unforgettable performing arts experience.
Ticket Info:
Tickets are available from the Peterborough Memorial Centre Box Office.

Peterborough Theatre Guild Presents: Silent Sky (Apr. 5)
Peterborough Theatre Guild Presents: Silent Sky
When Henrietta Leavitt begins work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s, she isn’t allowed to touch a telescope or express an original idea.
Instead, she joins a group of women “computers,” charting the stars for a renowned astronomer who calculates projects in “girl hours” and has no time for the women’s probing theories.
As Henrietta, in her free time, attempts to measure the light and distance of stars, she must also take measure of her life on Earth, trying to balance her dedication to science with family obligations and the possibility of love.
The true story of 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them.
Social progress, like scientific progress, can be hard to see when one is trapped among earthly complications; Henrietta Leavitt and her female peers believe in both, and their dedication changed the way we understand both the heavens and Earth.

Peterborough Theatre Guild Presents: Silent Sky (Mar. 29)

Magical Moonlight Market
Immerse yourself in the magic of the moonlight. Join us in celebrating springtime. Wear your silliest costume like the Mad Hatter or Bettle Juice, or be dark and mysterious or whimsical like a butterflys or mythical like a dragon. Whatever you can imagine can come true. Take your selfie in the moonlit enchanted forest. Get caught up in the metaphysical world by getting a reading, healing, finding your crystal, getting a genstone bracelet or necklace. Escape reality for the night.
Six psychics will be featured, 13 vendors will be present, a photo booth will be available, a raffle will be held, a potion bar will be open, and live music will be provided.
Potion Bar? What sorcery is this? Build your own special brew at the potion bar. Have you ever wondered what warming spices would taste like in cola, maybe like Dr. Pepper. What about a little lavender in your lemonade? Mint and Ginger Ale? Kaffir Leaves (Lime Leaves) in Spirit? Take a chance and find out. Want something hot, add warming spice to a coffee or lavender to a tea. These drinks are not only unique in flavor, but these combinations might just lead to a magical night.
Calling all warlocks, cosplayer, fantasy gamers and dragon slayers. The moonlight market is not just for the women. There will be something for everyone. Fancy to Cosmo has a wide variety of items like candles, bookmarks, astrological items, but they also have intuitive bracelets for both men and women.
Lightfulvibes has a fun active for the men. Ever wanted to crack open your own Geode? They are selling mini Geodes that you can smash, crack or throw (outside of course) to get to the inside. Their cooper rings and magnetic cuff bracelets are great for men. They also carry a wide array of earthy and woody scents for those who prefer the less flowery scents.
