Little Lakers Night Raises Over $15,000 For High-Demand Treatment In Children
/The home team won on and off the lacrosse field after Little Lakers Night in Peterborough, raising $15,287 for local kids’ treatment services on July 11.

The money raised was more than double the $6,784 raised at the first-ever Little Lakers Night last year for Five Counties Children’s Centre (FCCC).
“The Peterborough Lakers were amazing hosts and partners for Little Lakers Night, and we’re extremely grateful to the team as well as everyone who attended, participated, donated, sponsored and volunteered,” said Linsey Kampf, FCCC annual giving coordinator. “If you measure the success of the event, it’s not only in dollars raised but also in the many smiles on the faces of our kids and families that were evident throughout the game.”
Little Lakers Night featured many highlights, including:
Five Counties kids and families took part in a behind-the-scenes experience. Kids met Lakers players during their pre-game warmup, took part in the pre-game ball drop, and assisted in the PA booth during the first period.
Facepainting, Little Lakers Night T-shirt sales, giant Lego and a silent auction organized by Five Counties volunteers and staff took place before and during the game.
Members of the Junior A and Junior C Lakers volunteered to do pass the bucket through the crowd, which raised $4,000 alone for Five Counties kids.
Prior to the game, two St. Teresa kindergarten students, Bailey and Raelynn, were honoured for having their design chosen for the special jerseys worn by Lakers players during their pre-game warm-up. The girls’ teacher, Jocelyn Lemay, had encouraged her St. Teresa’s class to enter the jersey design contest. Bailey and Raelynn’s design for the warm-up jerseys -- a red-green-blue, stylized-crayon creation featuring rainbows and hearts – was ultimately transformed into reality thanks to the generosity of Merrett Home Hardware. After the game, the warm-up jerseys were sold in an online auction.
“Five Counties has played a big role throughout the years in our family, and we’re grateful to have this incredible Centre serving families in our community,” said Len Powers, FCCC ambassador and Peterborough Lakers’ board member.
The $15,287 raised from Little Lakers Night supports Five Counties’ Building Abilities for Life campaign. It goes directly to fund high-demand treatment services like speech therapy and occupational therapy.
The end result is that more kids and youth in the region can access life-changing treatment services that they need when they need it.

Peterborough opened the game with a five-goal run while Lakers goaltender Landon Kells kept the ball out of the net, shutting out Owen Sound in the first period for a 5-0 score.
The Lakers continued to ring up the scoreboard and Hellyer got his second of the game, just as he opened the scoring in the first period for a 6-0 lead. Owen Sound broke the shutout, scoring two straight goals for a 6-2 score. Hoggarth got his second of the night and Hellyer got the hat trick to pull away from Owen Sound again for an 8-2 score at the end of two periods.
Peterborough did not let up on offense, scoring another six goals to finish an eight-goal run. That included three goals from Resetarits for a four-goal night. Owen Sound got two scores in garbage time, and the Lakers easily left with a 14-4 win.
The Lakers can sweep the series as game three is back in Peterborough on Thursday at 8 p.m.

Peterborough jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first three goals thanks to Rob Hellyer, Turner Evans and Hoggarth on a shorthanded goal. Owen Sound was able to get one back before the period’s end for a 3-1 score.
Peterborough poured it on in the second without relinquishing any defense. Peterborough hammered home seven-straight goals with the last two from Hoggarth to complete the hat trick. Lakers goaltender Doug Buchan kept it clean, allowing nothing past him that period to make it a 10-1 game.
The North Stars finally found some footing in the third period as they opened things with three straight goals. Joe Resetarits and Colton Armstrong had Peterborough’s only goals in the final frame. Owen Sound tacked on one more goal late in the period but it was nowhere near enough to catch the Lakers and Peterborough got the victory.
Game two in the series is at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Arena in Owen Sound on Saturday night at 7 p.m. Game 3 is back in Peterborough next Thursday at 8 p.m.
Cobourg leads Oakville 1-0 and Brooklin leads Brampton 1-0 in the other quarterfinal matchups.

The bracket was determined after the Cobourg Kodiaks defeated Owen Sound 14-9 on Sunday night. The loss locked the North Stars as the sixth seed.
Peterborough had locked down the third seed after defeating the Brampton Excelsiors 11-6 on Thursday ending with a 7-5 record. The Lakers sit behind the defending champion and undefeated Six Nations Chiefs and second-seeded Brooklin L.C.
The Lakers faced Owen Sound in a home-and-home series on June 22 and 25. Peterborough won both games by scores of 15-8 and 13-7 respectively.
The teams play a best-of-five series in the first round. The semifinals and finals are a best-of-seven.
The Chiefs, as the top seed, earn a first-round bye. Brooklin L.C. is paired with the seventh-place Brampton Excelsiors, while the fourth-place Cobourg Kodiaks play the fifth-place Oakville Rock.

The home team burst out of the gate in the opening period with seven goals. Peterborough scored the first three thanks to Dylan Hutchinson, Withers and Austin Hasen.
Brampton scored the next three of four goals with Holden Cattoni getting on the board for Peterborough for a 4-3 game. The Lakers ended the period the same way they started, with three-straight scores from Owen Hiltz, Matt Gilray and Joe Resetartis for a 7-3 game.
The second period became a low-scoring affair for both sides. Hasen scored his second of the game to open the period just halfway past the frame. Peterborough let in a power-play goal from Seth Vanschepen before Hiltz got his second goal with 45 seconds left in the period for a 9-4 game.
The third stanza was similar to the last, with little scoring. Adam Thistlethwaite got on the board for the Lakers to open the period. Brampton scored two straight goals before Peterborough got the last goal, thanks to Cattoni. The Lakers won 11-6 and finished the league in third place being the undefeated Six Nations Chiefs and Brooklin L.C. with a 7-5 record.
Peterborough’s playoff opponent has yet to be determined but expect to begin the postseason at home next Thursday.
Six Nations' Eight-Goal Run Plunges Lakers in 12-7 Loss
/The Lakers could not keep up with the defending Mann Cup Champion Six Nations Chiefs as the latter scored eight-straight goals early on for the 12-7 win at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Ohsweken on Tuesday night.

Reigning MSL MVP Lyle Thompson started the scoring on the power play to give Six Nations the lead less than two minutes into the game. He was answered by fellow Haudenosaunee brethren Koleton Marquis who got one back for the Lakers.
The two teams traded goals on more time including a Joe Resetarits power-play goal for a 2-2 game. The floodgates opened from there as Six Nations took over the game, scoring five unanswered including a Thompson hat trick to round out the period for a 7-2 game.
Six Nations kept their foot on the gas pedal as they rung off another three straight to make it 10-2. Carter Page finally broke the run shorthanded to try and pump some life into the Lakers with a goal. It was quickly met with an Austin Staats goal from Six Nations. Marquis and Resetaris both got their second goals of the night to end the second period but the Lakers still trail 11-5.
The Lakers were able to outscore the Chiefs in the third but still lost the war. Colin Matthews found the scoresheet and Resetarits got a hat trick on the power play but two goals were nowhere close enough to mount a comeback and Peterborough fell 12-7.
With the loss, the Lakers cannot finish higher than third place. They could still be passed by the Oakville Rock who have three games left while the Lakers finish their season Thursday night at the Peterborough Memorial Centre to host the Brampton Excelsiors. The game is in support of Five Counties Children’s Centre for Little Lakers night.
