Peterborough Petes Are Now The No. 5 Ranked Team In Canadian Hockey League

The Canadian Hockey League just released its Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings for this week and your Peterborough Petes are ranked No. 5.

The Petes have a record of 8-2-0-0 so far this season, including three wins in three days last weekend in games against the Erie Otters, Oshawa Generals and Windsor Spitfires. The team is first overall in the East Division, Eastern Conference, and Ontario Hockey League with 16 points.

The weekly rankings—composed of teams from the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League—are selected by a panel of National Hockey League scouts.

The Petes are back in action Thursday, October 18th at 7:05 p.m. when they host the Oshawa Generals. Tickets are available through the PMC Collins Barrow Box Office in person, over the phone Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and 24 hours a day online.

Bob Gainey Named Senior Advisor To Peterborough Petes Board Of Directors

The Peterborough Petes Board of Directors have named alumnus and Hall of Famer Bob Gainey as a Senior Advisor ahead of the 2018/2019 season.
 
The Peterborough native will be available to provide guidance and expertise directly to the Board of Directors on matters relating to both hockey and business operations.

Having served as player, coach, general manager, and president at the NHL level for nearly 40 years, Gainey will provide unparalleled experience to his hometown team.
 
“I’m really looking forward to joining the Petes in this capacity, and am counting on my years of experience in hockey to be able to bring a new view and different ideas to the organization,” says Gainey.

A left winger who played for the Petes from 1971-73, Gainey was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992 following a 16-year NHL playing career with the Montreal Canadiens. He won five Stanley Cups, four Frank J. Selke trophies, and a Conn Smythe trophy during his playing career.
 
Gainey began his NHL front office experience in 1992 as Head Coach of the Minnesota North Stars. He guided that team to the Stanley Cup final in his first year, and was involved in the relocation to Dallas before winning back-to-back Presidents’ Trophies from 1997 to 1999.

City Of Peterborough Seeks Public Input On Feasibility Of Building Multi-Use Sport & Event Centre

Hallelujah to The City of Peterborough, which is studying the feasibility of building a new multi-use sport and event centre in the City and is seeking public input.

The study is being conducted in two phases, with an initial review of market opportunities to replace the existing Peterborough Memorial Centre and a second phase including a more detailed assessment of potential site locations, concept design and financial implications of investing in a new facility. 

The public is invited to join the City's consultants for an information session at the Evinrude Centre:

Date: Tuesday, April 3rd
Time: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Location: Evinrude Centre, Banquet Hall, 911 Monaghan Road
 
The purpose of the meeting is to provide background to the work, and answer questions like:

• What is a feasibility study?
• Why is an experienced and multi-disciplinary consulting team needed?
• What is the process of this study (Phase 1 and Phase 2) and what might the subsequent process look like?
• What outputs are likely and what impacts may arise?

The City wants to hear your opinion on the project and the merits of a new venue, and what ideal locations should be considered in developing a new multi-use sport and entertainment complex in or around Downtown Peterborough.

The consulting team led by Sierra Planning and Management will provide a presentation and facilitate a general discussion of results of the study so far at the event on April 3rd, and the issues and choices facing the City as a result of the analysis.

The Study has been underway for several months and details of the process can be found on the City of Peterborough website under “Business/Studies & Projects”.

Peterborough Petes Break Into CHL Top 10 Rankings

The Canadian Hockey League announced their recent CHL Top 10 Rankings for the 2017-18 season, which sees the Peterborough Petes ranked 10th in the CHL. This marks their first appearance in the weekly rankings since the 2005-06 season.

The Petes have a record of 7-2-01 so far this season, including three wins in three days last weekend in two games against the Kingston Frontenacs and one against the Sudbury Wolves. The team is first in the East Division and tied for first in the Eastern Conference with the Barrie Colts.

The weekly rankings, which are made up of teams from the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, are selected by a panel of National Hockey League scouts.

Petes to Host OHL Champion Erie Otters Thursday, September 21st In 2017-18 Home Opener

After an awesome 2016/2017 season, the Peterborough Petes 2017/18 seaon is is one of great optimism for the team to build on last year.

They will host the reigning OHL Champion Erie Otters on Thursday, September 21st at 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre in their home opener.

The game will kick off the 2017-18 schedule—the 62nd season for this storied franchise. The full Petes and OHL schedule will be released on Tuesday, June 6.
 
Season tickets, along with 10- and 20-ticket flex packs, are on sale now. Fans interested in season tickets or flex packs should contact Coordinator of Season Ticket Sales and Service, Steve Nicholls, at snicholls@gopetesgo.com, or by calling 705.743-3681, ext. 263.

Cobourg Cougars Are National Junior A Champs After Winning RBC Cup In OT

Nick Minerva scored 8:21 into overtime for the Cobourg Cougars on Saturday night, capping a dramatic come-from-behind 3-2 win for the Cougars over the Brooks Bandits—and taking the 2017 RBC Cup on home ice.

The National Junior A Champions have a big Peterborough connection: former Pete Josh Maguire plays for them (Cobourg is his hometown), Brent Tully is the GM (the architect behind the team) and their coach is John Druce. For Druce, who played 10 seasons in the NHL, this is his first head coaching job—and quite a debut season behind the bench.

Ryan Casselman forced the game into overtime, scoring with just over a minute left in regulation before Minerva's heroics in OT.
